Maya Romanoff is the largest manufacturer of handcrafted wallcoverings in the United States. For more than 40 years, their artisans have incorporated glass beads, gold leaf, seashells, wood and stitching right in their Chicago studio. Whether it is produced on-site or abroad, handmade or a Type II 54″ vinyl, every product is put through Maya Romanoff’s rigorous standard for quality, beauty and innovation, with a guiding mantra: “Make every wall beautiful!”
The uniqueness and beauty of these luxurious wallcoverings present elements that can only be experienced through the senses first-hand by coming to contact with them: selectively, the genuine mother of pearl wallcoverings bring luminosity to any room through the tactile lustre of pearl (a particularly unique wallcovering in this range is the mother of pearl in a shocking lacquer red tone). The hand-painted papers and wood veneers in ebony or pale beige green Ajiro provide a tranquil surrounding for a sophisticated ambience. Another uniquely glamorous wallpaper is the Beadazzled GeodeTM Glass Beads flexible wallcovering that literally shimmers playfully with light.
Maya Romanoff produces award-winning wallcoverings (e.g. 2014 Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Award, 2014 Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, 2013 Chicago Atheneum Green Good Design Award, 2012 Museum of Arts and Design Visionary Awards) that are also sustainable. Maya’s long‑standing commitment to Eastern philosophy has greatly influenced the company’s respect for materials. The majority of Maya Romanoff work has always been considered “green”. Maya Romanoff produces many of its wallcoverings by hand in their Chicago studio and consequently have a great deal of control over what goes into the products. Maya Romanoff strives to use natural and sustainable materials, work only with factories that are clean and treat their workers fairly, and purchase materials from local sources wherever possible.
Maya Romanoff use water‑based colorants, adhesives and finishes. Moreover water‑based effluents undergo a three‑step filtration process resulting in non‑hazardous wastewater; solids extracted from wastewater are non‑hazardous and are dried completely and disposed of responsibly. Over 50% of our products are manufactured or finished in the USA, including top selling lines such as Beadazzled Flexible Glass Bead Wallcovering® Collection, Mother of Pearl™ Wall Tiles, Weathered Walls™, Maya Romanoff 54™ Type II vinyls and hand‑painted vinyls.
Maya Romanoff contributes to Aid to Artisans.
