KIRKBY DESIGN

Kirkby Design forms part of the Romo fabric house group and was launched in September 2009, as a modern, high performance fabric resource library, compiled of collections with a sharp, contemporary feel coloured with a well balanced, sophisticated palette. A defining characteristic of Kirkby Design is the unique colour palette, which is made up of an extensive range of practical neutrals such as, Porcini, Bark, Jute and Twine, interspersed with fashionable shades including Orange, Eden, Magenta and Cobalt.

Meticulous care and attention has also been given to specific fabric treatments to ensure many of the fabrics meet Crib 5 contract standard, and to specialist finishing techniques to improve the handle on severe domestic and contract fabrics, ensuring the high durability does not compromise on the natural look and feel of the collections.

Notable amongst the Kirkby Design collections are the Eley Kishimoto collections that harness their expertise in weave, print and colour, to produce new patterns and masterfully adapted them into a collection of luxury interior textiles. Channeling the confidence of 1970s design whilst simultaneously bringing an original modern elemen, this unique collection of luxury fabrics are as bold and graphical as they are tactile and sophisticated. The quintessential playful style of Eley Kishimoto is expertly described and adapted through intricately woven jacquards (like the wonderful Stripey Zig Zag), Épinglé weaves (with the exceptional Origami Rocketinos and Electro Maze) and eye-catching printed velvets (like the sumptuous Spot on Weave).

Kirkby Design’s Ice presents a luxurious quality cotton velvet but with a gentle lustrous finish, for a refined and seductively dramatic approach to either upholstery or curtains. The Ice palette is equally rich in jewel-like tones of ruby, cobalt and teal as well as in fresh neutral and contemporary pastel shades.

Kirkby Design also collaborated with Transport for London (TfL) to recreate five iconic moquette fabric designs taken from the London Transport Museum’s archive to be re-worked into a collection of contemporary viscose velvets for a distinguished and retro approach.

Another quirky and playful design in the Kirkby Design collections is Cloud a 3D quilted velvet with a graphic hexagonal structure that is softened by a premium triple quilting to give a plush finish. Designed with upholstery in mind this fabric is ideal for statement furniture pieces, headboards and wall panelling.

An equally exciting collection resulted from the collaboration of Kirkby Design Jon Burgerman, a leading figure in the popular ‘doodle’ art movement, renowned for his distinctive illustrative style and fun drawing interventions. With a unique approach to colour and scale, Burgerman has used paints, crayons, ink, marker pens and paper cut-outs to create a world of creatures, characters & shapes for this unique collaboration. Using the latest digital printing technology Kirkby Design has masterfully captured every mark, smudge and wash of ink, creating a realistic hand-drawn effect.

Kirkby Design’s Arco Textures collection of upholstery weaves takes its cue from fashion’s classics whilst adding an inventive twist. Sophisticated detailing and enticing metallic effects are presented in a stylish palette that coordinates effortlessly with the Arco Geometrics collection. Linen, cotton and viscose qualities form sophisticated textural structures, providing endless potential when creating tailored interior schemes.

The Arco Geometrics collection is inspired by architectural references and glamourous retro elements both in patterns and colours. Employing an innovative approach, geometric patterns are woven with shimmering metallic yarns whilst otherwise regular shapes are subtly altered with linear details. Colours such as rich terracotta, muted gold, teal, clay and deep plum inject intensity into the collection and are combined in a sophisticated and harmonious way.

Kirkby Design produce a series of outdoor upholstery and curtain fabrics suitable for scatter cushions and sofas in pools, patios, gardens. Terrazzo Outdoors is a bold collection of graphic outdoor prints featuring five eye catching designs in a vibrant and playful colour palette. Designs include Brick, a large scale geometric reminiscent of a computerised brick wall, Basket, an over-sized, simplified basket weave effect and Point, a graphic chevron design. Terrazzo, after which the collection is named, is an intricate mosaic design inspired by Terrazzo stone flooring whilst Deck, is a contemporary take on a classic deck chair block stripe.

Combining design, practicality and durability, Kirkby Design’s Pergola collection presents a mix of graphic geometric, as well as plain and semi-plain weaves, that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor purposes. Neutral hues form the basis of this palette with highlights of terracotta, peridot yellow, azure blue and teal offering a colourful contemporary zeal. Please note that customers in the UK and Eire should be advised that due to British FR Standards, these fabrics are for outside use only and under no circumstance should be used or stored inside.

Kirkby Design’s Grain features a sleek, faux leather with an appealing soft touch and enduring vintage appearance is a practical alternative to real leather. The unique EasyClean technology allows you to wipe the fabric clean using a damp cloth, offering a durable quality that remains stylish. A sophisticated autumnal palette features characteristic shades of natural tan leathers as well as on-trend colours of khaki, deep teal and taupe.

Kirkby Design’s Lines presents three heavy weight upholstery weaves, each with a unique look and feel, work in perfect harmony with one another to form this compelling collection of tactile cloths. A trend-driven palette further accentuates the intricate details of the different weave structures.
